Death's Game is the latest Korean fantasy drama that tells the story of reincarnation to make up for the mistakes of making decisions about life. This webtun adaptation stars Seo In-guk and Park So-dam.
Death's Game tells the story of Choi Yee-jae (Seo In-guk), a young man who spent seven years trying to find a steady job.
It all started when he was a university student and actually got a glorious opportunity earlier than his classmates. Yee-jae went in for a final interview to work at Taekang Group, a well-known company in Korea.
However, on the day of the interview, Yee-jae witnessed a horrific incident and it disturbed his mind. As a result, it affected the interview process and the outcome.
Choi Yee-jae never thought that failing to become a Taekang Group employee would change his entire life. Since then, he has struggled to find a job, leaving him in debt for his college tuition fees.
The pandemic made it even harder for him to find a job. Choi Yee-jae, who initially had a kind and optimistic personality, slowly changed.
He began to be pessimistic because he always failed and found it difficult to get the life of ordinary people, namely working and building a family. For seven years, Yee-jae has been busy trying to send out applications with no luck.
During this period, Yee-jae also had time to invest with the income of being a part-time worker. He invests through his friend, Kim Hyeon-su (Kim Sung-cheol), with the lure of being able to provide a better life.
Not only that, through the investment, Kim Hyeon-su encouraged Choi Yee-jae to prepare for marriage with Lee Ji-su (Go Young-jung), his lover who accompanied him since he was a student.
Unfortunately, the investment he made through Hyeon-su failed, so Yee-jae lost all his money. He becomes even more depressed when he finds out that the law can't catch his friend at all.
With all this, Yee-jae then decided to end his relationship with Ji-su. He admitted that he did not want to be a burden to his girlfriend who came from a wealthy family.
The financial and work problems made Choi Yee-jae feel unable to continue his life. He decided to end it all by committing suicide.
However, instead of ending misfortune with death. Instead, he meets Death (Park So-dam). Death is a mysterious supernatural entity that judges the dead before they fall into hell.
Death cannot be known for his age or strength, and whether he is a god or a demon is all shrouded in mystery.
In Death's eyes, Choi Yee-jae's decision was considered a form of recklessness. Yee-jae sought an untimely death. Thus, Death (Park So-dam) came to punish him as he prepared.
Choi Yee-jae must experience death repeatedly through 13 other lives. However, if he finds a way to survive this time before facing death, he can survive that phase of life.
The drama is directed by Ha Byung-hoon who previously directed The Sound of Your Heart, Go Back Couple, and 18 Again. Death's Game is also Ha Byung-hoon's debut as a scriptwriter.
The drama also stars many other actors, such as Kim Ji-hoon, Choi Si-won, Sung Hoon, Kim Kang-hoon, Jang Seung-jo, Lee Jae-wook, Lee Do-hyun, Kim Jae-wook, Ryeo Un, Oh Jung-se, and many more.
Death's Game has eight episodes divided into two airings. The first four episodes aired December 15. While the last four episodes on January 5, 2024.
