AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER, released in 2005, is one of the most famous animated series in the world. The series quickly became a fan favorite around the world due to various factors such as, characters with deep personality complexities, a rich world with interesting lore, and a complex story plot. With the success of the series, renowned director M. Night Shyamalan made a live action adaptation that was released in 2010. Although the movie received negative reactions and criticism, the adaptation allowed the audience to imagine what to expect from the live action adaptation of AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER in the future. Now, Netflix is responsible for bringing the story of the series to life with the release of their highly anticipated live action version that will be released on February 22, 2022.
The Netflix adaptation was first announced in 2018 and is produced and directed by the creators of AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. However, in 2020, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will no longer be involved with this Netflix adaptation due to creative differences between them. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko felt that this adaptation did not live up to the message they created in the original series. Many fans had negative reactions and criticisms to this news, but with the release of the AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER trailer on Friday, fans are starting to be more open to this adaptation as many of the things shown look true and accurate to the original series. Netflix Avatar Synopsis: The Last Airbender (2024)
The main plot of the TV series will follow Aang's transformation into the perfect Avatar, Netflix will not attempt to change the main plot of the original series. But it will allow more time for the development of supporting characters and additional storylines that may have been forgotten and further develop the story in the original version. Water. Earth. Fire. Water. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, the leader of the four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked the Air Nomad Nation, the first step taken by the arsonist to conquer the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to appear, the world lost hope.
Aang, a young Air Nomad and the last of them, reawakens after being frozen for years to take his place as the next Avatar.
