The Movie Talk to Me: Banned in Kuwait

The American independent film production house A24's horror movie Talk to Me became an international hit for its chilling story. But recently, the movie was banned in Kuwait.

Not because the show is too scary, Talk to Me was banned in Kuwait following the presence of transgender actor Zoe Tarakes, as reported by Hollywood Reporters.

Kuwait is known to be very strict in terms of censorship. They had banned the screening of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Thor: Love and Thunder to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Talk to Me Synopsis

Meanwhile, Talk to Me is released in theaters starting, Wednesday (23/8/2023). Because of its brutality, this movie has an R (restricted) rating that can only be watched by those aged 17 years and over. 

The film, directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, received praise when it was released on January 22, 2023 at the Sundance Film Festival.

Talk To Me tells the story of Mia (Sophie Wilde) who has just lost her mother who has passed away. She and her group of friends Riley and Jade (Joe Bird and Alexandra Jensen) then playfully perform a séance ritual.

Starting at a party, one of the three boys finds a piece of preserved hand. It turns out that they can summon the spirits of the dead to enter the hand.

When they succeeded in doing so, they became more aggressive and obsessed with the ritual. However, things they never expected before are now happening to them.

One by one, the children were possessed. But instead of helping, their other friends recorded the incident and uploaded it on social media.
